Alpine pass

Switzerland means mountains, and this lap climbs 180 metres in total. The Switzerland racing game turns the Swiss Grand Prix into an alpine pass, on a track drawn from Switzerland's border: north from Jura past Zürich and Schaffhausen, along Thurgau and Sankt Gallen, high over Graubünden and the peaks around Piz Varuna, down into Ticino, then west through Valais and Vaud to finish at Genève.

At 4.9 km and 15 corners it's a proper mountain road, with covered galleries against the snow and a viaduct over a drop.

Around the Switzerland track

The Matterhorn fills the skyline, sharp and unmistakable. Below it, alpine chalets cling to the slopes, a cable car hangs over the valley, and the turrets of Chillon castle appear along the way. The road runs through snow galleries, roofed sections that keep the snow off the tarmac, and across a viaduct where the ground falls away beneath the wheels. Trams and cars wait near the fences, and the welcome banner comes in German, French and Italian.

How to drive the Switzerland circuit

The 710-metre main straight ends at Jura, turn 1. From there the pass takes over: a climb to a hairpin, a crest where the car goes light, and a plunge where the road drops steeply away. The slowest corner is the last one, Genève, at 69 km/h, so a clean exit there starts the next lap right.
