Fourteen corners take you right round the map in this China racing game. It's a race track shaped like China, so the lap opens at the Gobi Desert, heads north-east over the Greater Khingan Range to Heilongjiang, comes down the coast past the Liaodong and Shandong peninsulas, Zhejiang and Fujian, then turns west for the Himalayas, the Pamirs and the Tarbagatay Range. Every corner carries the name of the place it traces.

This is the Chinese Grand Prix as a modern purpose-built circuit: wide, flat, and in the spirit of Shanghai.

Around the China track

The Great Wall runs along the hills beyond the track, and a light haze hangs over it all. Closer in you pass the Temple of Heaven, a pagoda and a cluster of karst hills, with rice paddies and tea terraces filling the ground between. Cars, buses and mopeds are parked behind the fences. A roof covers the grandstand, the banner reads 欢迎, and the boards name Shanghai, Guangzhou, the Yangtze, Guilin and Beijing.

How to drive the China circuit

With 8 metres of climb, the lap is as flat as they come, so it's all about braking points. The 670-metre main straight ends at the Gobi Desert, turn 1, your best chance to pass. The slowest corner is Hebei at 84 km/h, turn 5, tucked between two peninsulas: brake early, then build speed down the coast.
