Mist and mountains define the Kyrgyzstan racing game. It's a track drawn from Kyrgyzstan's border, 4.9 km long, starting by Ysyk-Köl and heading south through Naryn and At Bashy, west over a run of mountain corners to Osh and Batken, round the Fergana Valley, back through the two Jalal-Abad corners, and north by Gora Manas and Talas to Chuy. Seventeen corners in all, and hardly a flat one.

With 143 metres of climb, the Kyrgyz Grand Prix is an extreme alpine lap, and the mist hides much of what's coming.

Around the Kyrgyzstan track

The Burana Tower stands on the plain, and the blue water of Issyk-Kul stretches away beneath the peaks. Yurts are pitched on the high pasture, horses graze nearby, and blocky concrete flats mark the towns. Tundra covers the slopes, Ladas and Land Cruisers wait by the fences, and the banner reads Кош келиңиздер. The boards name Osh, Karakol, Naryn and the Tian Shan, all softened by mist.

How to drive the Kyrgyzstan circuit

The 870-metre main straight ends at Ysyk-Köl, turn 1. The slowest corner is Jalal Abad, turn 11, at 70 km/h, the first of two corners in a row sharing the name. In the mist, and with extreme elevation, the climbs and descents test your nerve more than your top speed.
