The Registan of Samarkand looks over this Uzbekistan racing game, a flat airfield circuit laid out on the steppe. The track is drawn from Uzbekistan's border: from Karakalpakstan in the west across the Ustyurt Plateau, east through Navoi, Jizzakh and Sirdaryo, into the Fergana Valley past Namangan, then back through Tashkent and south to Kashkadarya and Surkhandarya. Thirteen corners, each named after a real place.

It's flat, with just 7 metres of climb, so it's all about braking points.

Around the Uzbekistan track

The Registan's great madrasas stand over the lap, and the Kalta Minor minaret rises nearby. Cotton fields stretch across the steppe, with bales stacked beside the track. Courtyard houses line the edges of the airfield, Ladas and cars wait behind the fences, and the banner reads Xush kelibsiz. The boards name Samarkand, Bukhara, Khiva, Fergana, Namangan and Tashkent.

How to drive the Uzbekistan circuit

The 850-metre main straight ends at Karakalpakstan, turn 1, the best place to pass. The slowest corner is Iskandar at 85 km/h, more than halfway round, and it's quick for the slowest on a lap, so carry speed. Nothing rises or falls much on an airfield, which leaves the line as the whole job.
