Turn one is at the top of a hill, and much of what follows is downhill. The Austria racing game sets a track drawn from Austria's border inside a mountain bowl, with 16 corners named for the places on the outline: Dreieggspitze at the top of the climb, then west through Innsbruck to Vorarlberg and Bregenz, back through Tirol to Salzburg, along the Böhmerwald, and east across Niederösterreich to Eisenstadt and Burgenland.

The Austrian Grand Prix is laid out in the spirit of the Red Bull Ring: a long climb, then the long plunge.

Around the Austria track

Stephansdom stands over the scenery, its spire unmistakable, and a Riesenrad ferris wheel turns further round. In the villages, an onion-domed church rises above baroque houses, and trams and cars wait by the fences. The setting is alpine and the sky is clear, so the mountains around the bowl stay sharp. A banner reads Willkommen in Österreich, and the boards name Salzburg, Tirol, Graz, Donau, Kärnten, Linz and Vienna.

How to drive the Austria circuit

The 1,030-metre main straight climbs to Dreieggspitze at turn 1, where you brake into the hill. Then comes the long drop back down. Salzburg, turn 8, is the slowest corner at 86 km/h, so the whole lap is quick, and the 65 metres of climb do the real work.
