Each corner here is named after the region, town or piece of coast it traces, so the lap doubles as a rough map of the country. The Benin racing game is built on a track drawn from Benin's border, 4.3 km with 12 corners. Donga comes at the end of the straight, then Atakora and Alibori, Borgou and Parakou, before the lap reaches the Slave Coast and finishes at the Bight of Benin.
The Grand Prix of Benin is set in a lake park with 20 metres of rolling climb.

Around the Benin track
The Door of No Return, a memorial arch on the shore, is the main landmark. On the lake, the Ganvié stilt village stands over the water, and a voodoo temple sits among the trees further round. Palm-oil plantations line the parkland, village houses cluster by the road, and mopeds and minibuses are parked behind the fences. The banner reads Bienvenue au Bénin, and the boards say Porto-Novo.

How to drive the Benin circuit
The main straight is 1,000 metres long and ends at Donga. The slowest corner is the last, the Bight of Benin, at 79 km/h, so the exit from it decides how fast you arrive at the line. In between, the lake park rolls gently over 20 metres.
