Mist sits on the highlands in the Ethiopia racing game, a 21-corner lap on a track drawn from Ethiopia's border. It starts at Buro Dughei and runs south-west past Dolo Bay and Negele Boran towards the Chalbi Desert, climbs to Mount Naita, then heads north up the western side through Gambela, Asosa and Amhara to Aksum and Adigrat, before coming down through the Danakil and Afar to Dire Dawa and Jijiga.

The Ethiopian Grand Prix is a dramatic high-plateau race with 93 metres of climb. With 21 corners, it takes a few laps to learn.

Around the Ethiopia track

The Rock-hewn Church of Saint George at Lalibela is the landmark, and the Aksum obelisk stands tall beside the road. Tukul round huts sit in the villages, wheat grows across the plateau, and minibuses and horse-carts wait by the fences. The banner greets you in Amharic, the boards name Gondar, Lalibela, Bahir Dar, the Simien, Harar and Addis Ababa, and the mist drifts across the higher ground.

How to drive the Ethiopia circuit

Turn 1, Buro Dughei, is also the slowest corner, at 70 km/h. You arrive there off a 600-metre straight, so brake hard and early: it's the best place on the lap to pass. After that come 20 more corners and 93 metres of climb, with the mist hiding the next braking point until late.
