Thunder, rain and jungle set the tone in the Honduras racing game. You race a track drawn from Honduras's border and coastline: from Colón it runs east along the Caribbean coast to Brus Laguna and Puerto Lempira, turns at Cabo Gracias a Dios, follows the border south through Olancho and El Paraíso to Choluteca and Valle, then climbs west through La Paz, Intibucá, Ocotepeque and Copán before finishing at the Gulf of Honduras.

Eighteen corners, 4.3 km and 59 metres of climb make the Honduran Grand Prix a hilly, busy lap, and the storm makes it harder still.

Around the Honduras track

The Maya ruins of Copán stand in the forest, with carved stelae near the road and a colonial church in town. Banana plants crowd the verges, buses and pickups are parked behind the barriers, and rain lashes the track as the storm rolls through. A banner says Bienvenidos a Honduras, and the boards read San Pedro Sula, Roatán, La Ceiba and Tegucigalpa.

How to drive the Honduras circuit

The main straight is 480 metres and finishes at Colón, turn 1. Six corners in, Cabo Gracias a Dios is the slowest at 75 km/h, the turn at the far eastern point of the lap. In the storm, the hills and 18 corners leave little room for error.
