Heat shimmers off the rock in this Oman racing game, a canyon lap with 56 metres of climb. The track is drawn from Oman's border and coast: Al Dhahira and Al Buraymi first, the Al Hajar Mountains at turn 3, then down to the Gulf of Oman and round Ra's al Had, the eastern tip of Arabia, before running south-west past the Gulf of Masira, Mirbat and Salalah to Dhofar.

The Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque is the landmark, its dome and minarets standing over the canyon. The fort at Nizwa sits nearer the track, and a dhow rests by the coast. Rock walls and mesas frame the road, with dunes in the open stretches and courtyard houses along the way. Heat makes the distance shimmer. Land Cruisers and pickups are parked trackside.
