Around the Yemen track

Shibam's mud-brick tower houses rise in a tight cluster from the canyon floor. The Dar al-Hajar rock palace stands on its outcrop, and a dragon blood tree from Socotra grows by the road. Mesas and dunes fill the land between, adobe buildings line the track, and pickups and land cruisers are parked at the fences. The welcome banner is in Arabic, and the boards read Aden, Socotra, Taiz, Mukalla and Hadramaut.
