Few laps climb like this one. The Peru racing game takes a track drawn from Peru's border and sends it into the mountains: from Punta Negra on the coast, north to Tumbes and Piura, across Amazonas into Loreto past Gueppi and Caballococha, south through Ucayali and Madre de Dios to Puno and Desaguadero, then back across the desert to Ica. That's 20 corners in 4.6 km.

The Peruvian Grand Prix is an extreme cloud forest climb with 160 metres of elevation, laid out in the spirit of the Andes.

Around the Peru track

Machu Picchu is the centrepiece of the scenery, with Huayna Picchu rising behind it and llamas grazing near the road. The track runs up and down Inca terraces cut into the slopes, and the cloud forest closes in around the high corners. Colonial buildings mark the towns. Minibuses and pickups are parked by the fences, the banner reads Bienvenidos and Allin hamusqa, and the boards name Cusco, Arequipa, Titicaca and Lima.

How to drive the Peru circuit

The main straight is 760 metres and ends at Punta Negra. From there the lap climbs to a hairpin, drops away in a steep plunge, and goes light over a crest. The slowest corner is Gueppi, turn 7, at 70 km/h, deep in the Loreto section, so leave yourself room on the way in.
