The Suriname racing game is all corners. Nineteen of them are packed into 4.3 km, on a race track shaped like Suriname itself, and each takes the name of a place on its border. The lap heads inland from Cottica, deep into Sipaliwini and past the Wilhelmina Gebergte, then comes out on the coast at Nickerie and runs east through Coronie, Saramacca and Commewijne to Moengo.

The setting is river jungle under a tropical haze, with 64 metres of climb.

Around the Suriname track

A wooden cathedral from Paramaribo is the landmark here, watching over the lap from above the trees. Dutch colonial houses in soft Caribbean colours and a stilt house by the river fill out the scenery, with sugarcane in the clearings and the rainforest pressing in everywhere else. Haze hangs over the canopy. Minibuses and pickups are parked by the track, and the welcome banner reads Welkom in Suriname.

How to drive the Suriname circuit

There's no long run to relax on. The main straight is just 340 metres before turn 1 at Cottica, and from there the corners keep coming through the hills of the interior. The slowest is Coronie at 76 km/h, back on the coastal stretch, where a good exit sets up the drive towards Saramacca.
