Laos is the only landlocked country in Southeast Asia, so there's no coastline to follow here. The Laos racing game uses a track drawn from Laos's border instead, starting at Attapu in the south and running past the Dângrêk Range and Champasak, up through Bolikhamxai and Xaignabouri to Ban Houayxay and Bokeo, into the far north at Louang Namtha and Phôngsali, then back via Louangphrabang, Houaphan and Xiangkhoang.

The Lao Grand Prix is a modern circuit with 28 metres of rolling climb, and mist off the river softens every view.

Around the Laos track

Pha That Luang, the golden stupa, is the landmark you'll keep seeing. The Patuxai arch and a wat temple stand along the lap, rice paddies spread across the flat ground by the river, and the buildings are Southeast Asian in style. Tuk-tuks and mopeds are parked behind the barriers, the crowd waves flags through the mist, and the banner reads ຍິນດີຕ້ອນຮັບ. The boards name Luang Prabang, the Mekong, Pakse and Vientiane.
