Old quarter

Lanterns hang over the narrow streets in this Vietnam racing game, a lap through an old quarter in the spirit of Hanoi. The track is drawn from Vietnam's long, S-shaped outline, starting at Khánh Hòa on the coast, running south to Cà Mau Point and the Mekong Delta, up through Tây Ninh and the Central Highlands, north to Lai Chau and Cao Bằng, and back down by Quảng Ninh and the Gulf of Tonkin.

It's flat, with 8 metres of climb, and 4.6 km long.

Around the Vietnam track

Strings of lanterns cross the street overhead, and at one point the road squeezes tight between the buildings of the old quarter. Out beyond the rooftops, the limestone karsts of Hạ Long Bay rise from the water, with a junk sailing among them. The One Pillar Pagoda stands nearby, a rice farmer's hut sits in the paddies, and mopeds and buses are parked at the kerbs. The boards read Hồ Chí Minh, Đà Nẵng, Mekong, Hạ Long and Huế.

How to drive the Vietnam circuit

The 880-metre main straight ends at Khánh Hòa, turn 1, the clearest overtaking spot. The old quarter has a narrow squeeze where the walls close in, and the slowest corner, Quảng Ninh at 70 km/h, comes late, near the Gulf of Tonkin. Brake early there and the last two corners take care of themselves.
