This Mali racing game is quick. Its slowest corner is still taken at 116 km/h, and there are only ten of them in 4.3 km. The track is drawn from Mali's border, starting at Kidal in the north-east, through Gao, swinging south via Ségou, Sikasso and Bougouni, west past Koulikoro and the Fouta Djallon, then back across Aoukâr and Sokolo to Timbuktu.
The Malian Grand Prix is a modern, purpose-built layout with 34 metres of rolling climb.

Around the Mali track
The Great Mosque of Djenné is the landmark here, its mud-brick walls standing over the river plain. A Timbuktu mosque and a cluster of granaries sit nearer the track, and the buildings are Sahel mud houses. Sand dunes cover the open ground. Pickups, mopeds and camels are parked by the fences, the banner reads 'Bienvenue au Mali', and the boards name Bamako, Mopti, Ségou and the Niger.

How to drive the Mali circuit
An 830-metre main straight runs into Kidal at turn 1. The rest of the lap flows, with long, fast corners over gentle rises and falls. Even Timbuktu, the last corner and the slowest, goes at 116 km/h, so carry speed onto the straight and you'll be hard to catch.
