From Mahakali in the far west it runs along the mountains through Seti, Karnali, Dhawalagiri and Gandaki, past Kathmandu and Ramechhap to Sagarmatha and Mechi in the east, then back along the south through Janakpur, Birganj and Lumbini.

Around the Nepal track

Mount Everest towers over the lap, and the Boudhanath Stupa sits closer in. Prayer flags flutter beside the road, a pagoda temple stands on the hillside, and rice paddies step down the slopes between Himalayan houses. At one point the ground falls away beneath a viaduct. Land Cruisers, buses and tuk-tuks are parked trackside. The banner greets you in Nepali, and the boards read Kathmandu, Pokhara, Annapurna and Chitwan.

How to drive the Nepal circuit

It's all up or down here. The 660-metre straight ends at Mahakali, turn 1, then the road climbs toward a hairpin, crests where the car goes light, and plunges down a steep drop. Ramechhap, turn 10, is the slowest corner at 66 km/h, just after Kathmandu.
