Sulawesi is one island of Indonesia, and Indonesia has its own separate circuit; this one is drawn from Sulawesi's coastline alone. That makes the Sulawesi racing game a wandering lap, because the island spreads out in long, thin arms. From Sulawesi Utara the route runs along the Gulf of Tomini to Luwuk, drops to Sulawesi Tenggara, passes Makassar, and turns north up the Makassar Strait to Sulawesi Tengah.
The theme is the Toraja highlands, a hilly 58 metres of climb through forest and rice paddies.

Around the Sulawesi track
Tongkonan houses line the hills, their roofs sweeping up at both ends like the hulls of boats. A rice-terrace hut sits above the paddies and an outrigger lies on the shore below. It's highland forest for most of the way, green and close, with mopeds and minibuses parked at the fences and a crowd waving flags under a Selamat datang banner. The boards read Makassar, Manado, Toraja, Palu and Bunaken.

How to drive the Sulawesi circuit
Turn 1 does double duty. The 480-metre main straight ends at Sulawesi Utara, and at 70 km/h it's also the slowest corner on the lap, so the braking zone is where races are won and lost. After that the road climbs and falls through the highlands, and the eleven corners come quickly on a 4.6 km lap.
