Stone columns and canyon walls frame this Syria racing game. The track is drawn from Syria's border, so the lap starts in the far north-east at Al Qamishli, runs south through Hasaka and Dayr Az Zawr, crosses to the south-west, and turns at the Lebanon Mountains before reaching the Levant Coast. From Lattakia it swings inland through Idlib to Aleppo, the final corner of nine.
It's a rolling desert lap with 27 metres of climb, short on fuss and long on speed.

Around the Syria track
The colonnade at Palmyra lines up across the desert, and the Aleppo Citadel rises nearby. Wooden norias, the big waterwheels, stand beside the track, and olive groves fill the flat ground between the mesas. The buildings are courtyard houses, cars and pickups are parked by the fences, the welcome banner is in Arabic, and the boards read Aleppo, Homs, Latakia, Palmyra, Euphrates and Damascus.

How to drive the Syria circuit
There are only nine corners, and the first is the one that matters most. The 1,040-metre main straight ends at Al Qamishli, which is also the slowest corner on the lap at 85 km/h, so braking hard from top speed is the whole story of turn 1. The rest flows quickly over gentle rises.
