Cliff road

The lap opens on a coastal cliff road and ends deep in the east. Built as an Angola racing game, it's a race track shaped like Angola, 4.6 km and 16 corners long. From Kaokoland it heads north up the coast through Benguela and Ponta das Palmeirinhas to Luanda, turns inland at Zaire and Uíge, crosses Malanje and Lunda Norte, then sweeps south through Moxico and Cuando Cubango to finish at Luiana.

The Angolan Grand Prix climbs 65 metres along the cliffs under clear skies.

Around the Angola track

Down by the water, the Fortress of São Miguel looks over the Luanda Marginal, the seafront that frames the main view. The Kalandula waterfall pours off a ridge further round the lap, and baobabs stand out on the savanna. Modern buildings line the district, minibuses and four-by-fours sit by the fences, and a banner says Bem-vindos a Angola. The boards name Benguela, Huambo, Lobito, Namibe, Cuanza and Luanda.

How to drive the Angola circuit

Give it everything on the 970-metre main straight, then brake hard for Kaokoland. The cliff road rises and falls through 65 metres from there. The slowest corner is the very last one, Luiana, at 73 km/h, so a good exit there sets up the whole run down the straight.
