Nineteen corners on a misty high plateau. This Burundi racing game is a race track shaped like Burundi, 4.6 km long, its corners named after the provinces, towns and hills it traces: Makamba twice, then Bururi, Bubanza and Cibitoke, Ngozi and Cimo, on to Kirundo, through Muyinga and Cankuzo, and back down via Ruyigi to Rutana. Several more are small local places along the way, on a lap that rarely stays level for long.

The Grand Prix of Burundi is a mountain course that climbs 94 metres, with mist hanging over the plateau.

Around the Burundi track

Lake Tanganyika spreads out below, and the Gishora drum sanctuary sits on its hill as the main landmark. Drummers' huts with thatched roofs cluster nearby, banana groves crowd the slopes, and tea terraces step down the hillsides. Mopeds and minibuses park by the fences in the village. Mist softens the far side of the plateau. A banner reads Murakaza neza, and the boards say Bujumbura.
