Long, flat and hazy, the Iraq racing game is built for speed. It's a race track shaped like Iraq, setting off at Ar Rutbah in the western desert, then up through Al-Anbar and Ninawa to Dihok and Arbil in the north, down past As-Sulaymaniyah, Diyala and Maysan, and out to the Persian Gulf at Al-Basrah before the last corner at Khawr Nānij. Eleven corners over 4.3 km.
The Iraqi Grand Prix is an oasis-town circuit with just 5 metres of climb, and sand haze over the whole lap.

Around the Iraq track
The spiral minaret of the Great Mosque of Samarra climbs above the town, and the stepped ziggurat of Ur stands along the lap. Date palm groves shade the road by the river, courtyard houses line the streets, and sand dunes spread out beyond them. Cars and Land Cruisers are parked by the fences, and the banner says أهلاً وسهلاً, welcome. The boards read Basra, Mosul, Euphrates, Tigris and Baghdad.

How to drive the Iraq circuit
The 1,080-metre main straight is a quarter of the lap, and it ends at Ar Rutbah, turn 1, the heaviest stop. The slowest corner is the Persian Gulf, turn 9, at 85 km/h. With almost no elevation, the challenge is braking accurately through the haze.
